Konjac sponges: What are they and how to use them

Filters are great, but great skin is better.

What Is a Konjac Sponge?

A konjac sponge is a really gentle exfoliator and deep pore cleansing facial puff that’s made from konjac root—a vegetable root grown in Asia. It’s 100% natural, plant-based and paraben-free.  A skincare game changer, the puff works to exfoliate your skin, removing dead skin cells, giving your complexion a radiant glow. Infused with a combination of nourishing vitamins and minerals, the sponge also helps to soften and maintain normal pH levels on the skin and protect its natural lipid barrier against inflammation, acne-causing bacteria, and blackheads.

HOW DO YOU USE IT?

Some konjac sponges come dry. In that case, just soak the sponge for 2-5 minutes in bowl of water so it expands and becomes soft and pliable. Next, you can add a small amount of your favorite cleanser to the sponge. Massage your face in small circular motions until your face is clean.  Next, splash warm water to remove all the cleanser.  Konjac sponges are great for all skin types and gentle enough to use daily.

To clean the konjac sponge, rinse it lightly with cool running water.  Gently squeeze the excess water out by pressing the sponge between your palms. Do NOT twist, wring, stretch it too hard or expose it to direct sunlight as doing so will damage it.  Then hang it to dry overnight in a well ventilated area.

Once per week, I place my konjac sponge in hot water for about 5 -10 minutes to disinfect it. Still, it doesn’t last forever. After 4-6  weeks, I needed to replace it with a new one.

As well, you’ll know it’s time to replace the sponge when it no longer expands properly and starts to disintegrate. The great news is it’s biodegradable so it can be buried in the ground.
